We’re slow on the uptake – but catching up fast.

Unfortunately, Belgium is lagging behind international peers, mainly because of governmental delays. Initial 5G applications were launched as early as two years ago in other nations.

However the legislators have responded to this fact, temporarily unlocking the 5G spectrum so that Belgian market players (such as Cegeka) have the chance to acquire expertise – and to learn from the experiences of stakeholders in other markets. With the new government in place, we expect a 5G spectrum auction to be organized by late 2021, allowing companies to acquire 5G spectrum for the next two decades.

Through its acquisition of Gridmax, Cegeka has taken an important step in acquiring operational knowhow in the field of deploying and managing private networks.
