QUESTION

What are typical bottlenecks when implementing a 5G MPN?

No bottlenecks are necessary – with the right planning.

You know the old saying, “prior planning prevents poor performance”? It definitely applies not only to 5G MPN implementations, but to every IT project out there.

There are several things to consider in order to ensure that the implementation runs smoothly, including:

  • whether outdoor and indoor coverage should be offered and the required positioning of the radio antenna to do so
  • which traffic profile to transfer for which application, downlink and uplink, and which slices of network resources are expected as a result
  • the level of data sovereignty required
  • an appropriate network engineering design with ad hoc security monitoring
  • whether or not end users need off-campus mobile connectivity
  • whether/when all end-devices can connect to the MPN either natively or through external 5G capable devices.
  • How much spectrum will be needed to support the traffic and QoS requirements of the enterprise applications running across the MPN.
  • The network architecture choice between fully autonomous standalone MPN and cloud based NPI-NPN architectures.
