QUESTION

When will 5G arrive in Belgium, and what is the timeline?

At some point in 2021 to 2022.

The allocation of the 5G spectrum that’s best suited for B2B applications (the so called 3,5GHz band) to companies in Belgium depends on the speed of federal legislation, and could take place via auction in late 2021, early 2022.

However, BIPT, Belgium’s regulatory body for electronic communications, has already granted temporary licenses to specific players such as Cegeka. In addition to this temporary license, Cegeka, through its subsidiary Gridmax, has the rights to additional spectrum in the 3410-3450MHz band.
