Android and IOS 5G smartphones have been available since mid-2020. Chipset manufacturers like Qualcomm, with its SDX55, support their OEMs in the integration of chips into modems, on-premise customer equipment and embedded systems.
Systems that can detect 5G slices (PNI-NPNs) will become available from 2021 on, as will computers, dongles and industrial equipment.
Most 5G devices will use embedded SIMs, or eSIMS, which are permanently embedded and smaller than nano-SIMs and can easily fit into wearables. SIM cards will continue to be used in larger devices like smartphones.
