Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central continues to evolve as a modern, AI-powered ERP for growing businesses. The 2025 Release Wave 2 will bring a host of new features that make automation smarter, insights deeper and compliance easier. Ultimately, this will help companies work more efficiently and make better decisions. Here’s what we’re most excited about. The updates below are expected to be released from October 2025 through March 2026.

Copilot & AI: Intelligent agents for everyday efficiency

Get more contextual invoice drafts with Payables Agent

One of the headline features is the enhanced Payables Agent. This intelligent assistant matches open purchase orders to incoming invoices, streamlining the accounts payable process. Traditionally, matching invoices to orders (especially for services or expenses without clear delivery receipts) has been a manual, error-prone task. The Payables Agent leverages AI to identify matching orders and lines, even when vendor invoices lack unique references. By considering contextual information from historical invoices, it distinguishes between similar-looking transactions and ensures accurate coding, such as assigning electrician services to the correct G/L account. This automation reduces manual effort, saves processing time, and increases accuracy, allowing finance teams to focus on higher-value activities. Read more at learn.microsoft.com.

Capture more sales with enhanced Sales Order Agent

The Sales Order Agent receives significant enhancements, enabling it to process more complex sales inquiries independently. It now handles email attachments, supports multiple ship-to addresses, and provides capable-to-promise responses based on real-time availability. By automating more of the quote-to-order process and allowing users to guide the agent with natural language, sales and customer service teams can process more requests with greater speed and accuracy. This will also be possible when information is incomplete or unstructured. Read more at learn.microsoft.com.

Give more instructions for the agent when you review its tasks

A key theme in this release is maintaining transparency and control over AI-driven processes. The Copilot and agents task pane will allow users to give additional instructions to agents, ensuring that human oversight remains central. This “human-in-the-loop” approach ensures agents stay on track and workflows remain smooth, while still benefiting from automation.

Copilot: Smarter summaries and analysis

Summarize with Copilot enhancement

This enhancement will help users quickly understand the state of any record which results in saving time and making it easier to plan next steps. Read more at learn.microsoft.com.

Use enhanced analysis assist with Copilot

The new analysis assist feature in Copilot will allow users to express data analysis requests in natural language, such as “show me vendors by location sorted by amount of purchases.” This will dramatically reduce the time spent constructing analysis views and enables faster, more intuitive insights. Users can include fields from related tables and receive immediate feedback on analysis design choices, optimizing performance and decision-making. Read more at learn.microsoft.com.

Find pages and reports with advanced Tell Me search

The new Advanced Tell Me Search uses AI to help users quickly locate any page or report (even if they don’t remember the exact name). By searching based on semantic meaning and considering various page properties, this feature reduces time spent searching and keeps work moving efficiently.

Calculate excise taxes

A new Excise Taxes feature will automate the calculation of excise taxes for specific goods and services, using rules and rates tailored to different products and regions. Sustainability: Streamlined ESG reporting

Business Central offers seamless integration with the Project ESG Reporting app, streamlining compliance reporting for standards like CSRD, ASRS, and BRSR. Companies will be able to measure environmental impacts, such as greenhouse gas emissions, water usage, and waste intensity, and align sustainability data with regulatory taxonomies. This integration removes repetitive data entry and enables efficient management of non-transactional data, supporting organizations in meeting complex ESG reporting requirements and enhancing collaboration across business applications.
