After going public, Italy’s premier supplier and distributor of fresh food decided that September 2016 was the per-fect moment to renew its ERP system for the digital age. Its ideal international transformation partner? Cegeka.
Produce distribution firm Orsero Group was eager to further strengthen its position in the marketplace after becoming a public company in the last quarter of 2016. Beginning with its Italian distribution company Fruttital, the group chose to completely revamp its processes and procedures based on the trends of the digital trans-formation. “We had been using the old ERP system for years, and we were ready to invest in a solution that resonated with our needs today and those of our clients. Following the relaunch, it was ideal timing for us to go digital,” explains Tommaso Cotto, COO of the group.
Fruttital has always invested in internal IT compe-tency. Its IT department is small but very skilled, and when asked for opinions regarding a new ERP solution, the team – from developers to project managers – all agreed: cloud-based Microsoft AX 365. However, the company would need a skilled, multinational partner. “Cegeka really impressed us with its international footprint and its strong competency in the food sector – unique advantages among its competitors. Even though it would be a national project at first, it will eventually be rolled out group-wide.”
With the business process analysis phase complete, the project is now in its design phase, which features 700 users across 10 pilot projects. “This is definitely a 50/50 collaboration,” Tommaso asserts. “The team is very well-structured internally, but we rely heavily on Cegeka’s guid-ance and insight. We’re working mainly with the Cegeka Italy team, but we receive support from the Belgian business as well, which possesses key expertise in our industry.”

With the project’s go-live scheduled for mid-2018, Fruttital isn’t just the first large company in Italy to implement Microsoft AX365.
“The company is also pioneering on other fronts. Traditionally, we’ve depended on our own talent and used our own resources to overcome IT challenges, but the complexity of today’s digital innovations makes it necessary for us to seek the help of specialized experts. This project marks the first time that the group has ever been involved in a collabo-ration with an outside partner,” Tommaso says.
