Cegeka DNA: meet our colleague, Tudor.

How 7 years of learning look like.

I joined Cegeka in 2013 but I know some of my current colleagues since 2005. This is because my colleagues and I were members of an experimental team in another company which then split as an independent company and, about 3 years later, was merged into Cegeka.   

I was at that time, a night-shift engineer, basically performing all changes with impact and solving all P1 tickets that would appear over the nightshift. This morphed later into a Wintel engineer role with a strong preference for the nightshift for the small environments and sometime later I switched to a Wintel engineer for the large clients. Starting 2016 I am part of to the Virtualizations Infra team and since then I’m working on the virtualization layer within Cegeka.



I like it very much into Cegeka as the technical layer I’m working with it’s quite complex and there is almost weekly something unusual, an edge case that we happen upon. That one 1 in a million case that makes everyone go “huh… who would have thought”. If you are a curious fellow and would like to increase the expertise on your own domain, then this is one of the best places to be.

 

  • What inspires you to become better in what you are doing?

It’s not about a single thing, there are multiple things and bit by bit they add up. From reading about the latest tech in use and then being able to play with it in the POC environment, to talking with my colleagues about tech and trying new ideas, use case, edge cases or simply “what would happen of” kind of thing.

I am glad to be part of a team where I am able to share both the successes and the annoyances, receiving  new perspectives on a problem or maybe just joking about the same problem to lighten up the atmosphere. Also I’m grateful to learn new things by specific training, by working with tech and people and doing things out of the conform zone.

  • How does our culture get in line with your personal success/ goals? 

 Personally, and concretely for me, the most helpful is access to trainings I could not reach otherwise (either due to pricing or due to restricted availability). Followed by the Bookster subscription. I believe it’s a win-win scenario.

When I was in high-school and needed to decide what I want to do after, I determined that I want a job where I can learn, or I am forced to learn on a daily basis. I said forced learning because unfortunately we all seem to have a bias and we tend to forget that learning is not something the brain likes to do in larger quantities; therefore, after learning, we tend to forget the amount of effort we need to put in to learn something new. 20+ years later I still hold true to that decision and while not all my learning is about VMware or ITC in general, it’s about learning something new each day.

  •  What do you love about your job at Cegeka?

 The simplest way to respond to this question is that the things I like and/or love, are basically the same as the things that make me want to do better on a day to day. On a fun note, free coffee always helps.
