Low-Code in a Vibe Coding World

The conversation everyone is having

Over the past months, I have found myself having the same conversation again and again. Customers are experimenting with AI-driven development, business users are discovering the possibilities of vibe coding and new applications seem to appear almost instantly from nothing more than an idea and a prompt. Everywhere you look, the message is the same: software is becoming dramatically easier to create.

For many people, that naturally leads to a conclusion. If AI can generate applications, workflows and even complete solutions, why would organisations still invest in low-code platforms?

At first glance, it feels like a valid question. The pace of innovation is extraordinary and it is becoming increasingly difficult to distinguish between what is built by a developer, what is created through low-code and what is generated by AI. The barriers that traditionally separated business users from software creation are disappearing in front of our eyes.

Yet the more I observe what is happening in large organisations, the more convinced I become that we are focusing on the wrong part of the story. Because software creation was never the end goal, it was always the starting point.

When creation is no longer the bottleneck

For decades, the limiting factor in digital transformation was the ability to build solutions. There were more ideas than available development capacity, more opportunities than resources and more business demand than IT could realistically deliver. Vibe coding changes that fundamentally. It dramatically lowers the cost of experimentation and puts software creation in the hands of far more people than ever before.

That is the revolution everyone is talking about, but it is not the revolution that keeps a CIO awake at night. The moment software becomes easy to create, organisations face a different challenge. Applications still need to be secured. Data still needs to be protected. Integrations still need to work. Compliance requirements do not disappear because an application was generated by AI. Governance does not become optional because a business user created something in a few minutes instead of a few months.

In reality, the opposite happens:

• The easier it becomes to create software, the more important governance becomes.
• The easier it becomes to create automations, the more important orchestration becomes.
• The easier it becomes to create agents, the more important operational control becomes.

There is another consequence that is often underestimated. Ease of creation is not, by itself, a reason for something to exist. Just because vibe coding and low-code make it almost trivial to spin up an app, automation or agent, that does not mean every idea deserves to become a solution. In the past, the cost and effort of development acted as a natural filter. Before an organisation committed time, budget and people, there had to be at least some justification for why the solution mattered. When that filter disappears, organisations need to replace it with something more deliberate. Otherwise, they risk creating applications, automations and agents simply because they can, not because they should.

Why low-code becomes more relevant

That is why I believe vibe coding is not making low-code obsolete. It is making it more relevant than ever.

For years, platforms such as Microsoft Power Platform were often positioned as faster ways to build applications. While that remains true, it is becoming a smaller part of the value they provide. The real value increasingly lies in everything that happens after an idea has been turned into a solution.

• How is it governed?
• How is it deployed?
• How is it connected to enterprise systems?
• How is it monitored?
• How is it secured?
• How does it evolve over time?

Those questions become significantly more important when software creation becomes accessible to everyone.

In that sense, low-code platforms are gradually evolving from development platforms into operational platforms. They are becoming the environment in which applications, automations, AI agents, business processes and enterprise data come together in a controlled and scalable manner. Their purpose is no longer simply to accelerate development. Their purpose is to operationalise innovation.

From applications to agentic AI

And that evolution becomes even more important as we move into the age of agentic AI. Today, organisations are vibe coding applications. Tomorrow, they will be vibe coding agents. Soon after that, they will be creating entire digital teams composed of specialised agents capable of collaborating across systems, processes and departments. Creating those agents will not be difficult. Managing them will be.

The organisations that thrive in the coming decade will not be the ones that generate the most code. They will be the ones that successfully transform all that newly generated intelligence into sustainable business capability. They will understand that innovation without governance creates chaos, that intelligence without orchestration creates fragmentation and that software only delivers value when it becomes part of a larger operating model.

Two sides of the same evolution

That is why I see vibe coding and low-code not as competing trends, but as two sides of the same evolution. Vibe coding will be making traditional software creation abundant. Low-code is becoming the foundation that allows organisations to turn that abundance into real business value. And in a world where everyone can create software, that foundation may prove more valuable than ever.
