In 2011, Aviapartner decided to extend its outsourcing contract with Cegeka. The central IT infrastructure was moved to the service provider, who also offers first-line and second-line support for all of Aviapartner’s software. Toon Martens, CIO at Aviapartner: “Aviapartner retrieves its e-mail from the public cloud, and we are using a private cloud hosted by Cegeka for our software suites and custom software.”
IT outsourcing is not a walk in the park in the aviation sector, because it involves a lot of real-time computing. When the check-in process comes to a standstill, there will soon be long passenger queues. In addition, the infrastructure has to be able to support variable peak loads.

Cegeka’s new High-Density data center has the required capacity for this purpose. Despite the complexity of applications, Cegeka guarantees very high availability for our systems. Cegeka ensures proactive monitoring and their second-line team is always on stand-by.
In Cegeka’s data center, Aviapartner is using more shared infrastructure now. The infrastructure can keep up with the growth of Aviapartner’s business and IT costs are based on actual service usage thanks to outsourcing and cloud services. The pricing models are variable, which makes IT costs transparent and predictable.
Aviapartner had learnt its lesson after an earlier data center migration. During that transition, the systems experienced significant ‘business disruptions’. The transition team now made proper preparations and ensured a few alternative scenarios. “The transition path went well, which is a real success for the team.”
The new agreement with Cegeka is now more transparent and flexible. “People expect IT to be agile", Martens states. “The aviation sector is very volatile. Passenger and cargo volumes may vary, and there is fierce competition.”
“A crisis usually hits the aviation sector first. Therefore, IT should be able to adapt to changing requirements. We have to be able to roll out our applications very fast in case of an acquisition or the start-up of activities at a new airport. IT outsourcing allows us to realize our growth ambitions more quickly.”
