2024 Microsoft Release Wave 2: what is new for Dynamics 365 Business Central?

Are you using Dynamics 365 Business Central? Then you won't want to miss this blog! We are sharing the key updates from Release Wave 2.

General Updates: Warehouse Bookings and Job Queues

The first general update allows employees to work on transactions for warehouse bookings simultaneously without blocking each other. The result? Less waiting time and more productivity. There are also two new developments for job queues:
  1. It is now possible to receive an external notification (via Power Automate) and quickly respond to issues with automatic job queue postings.
  2. You now receive notifications when there are problems with the background processing of job queues. If something goes wrong, the role center can help quickly address and resolve it.

User Interface: Enhanced Search Function, Data Columns, and Drag & Drop

For the user interface, there are several updates we are excited to share:
  • The search function for lists in Business Central has been enhanced. This speeds up the search process and delivers more accurate and relevant results.
  • Users can now adjust the width of data columns, even if this is disabled through personalization.
  • Finally, you can now use 'drag and drop' in the file upload window to add multiple files at once.

Finance: Attachments & Multiple VAT Numbers

For Finance, the ability to add attachments when sending electronic documents is now available. Business Central can then encode these into an XML file (along with invoices or credit notes) when sending documents to different endpoints. Another handy addition for Finance is the capability to use multiple VAT numbers per customer.

Copilot: Number Sequences, Analysis Tabs, and More

This Release Wave is also packed with updates for Copilot:
  • Copilot assists with creating and maintaining number sequences, saving considerable time.
  • Expansion of sales rules: Previously, it was possible to add sales lines via Copilot by searching for an item or document. These two can now be combined: first, Copilot searches for the document, such as framework agreements, and then the correct items.
  • It is now easier to add product information by reusing information from similar items (such as variants and units of measure).
  • Copilot generates analysis tabs directly from the chat window to help you gain insights into data. For example, you can ask, "Show me suppliers by location, sorted by purchasing behavior," and Copilot immediately shares the insights.
  • Lastly, there are improvements to the chat functionalities, including faster response times for queries, better analytical insights, and more examples for prompts.

Project & Services: Text Expansions, Archiving, and Improved Usability

Finally, we discuss the updates in this Release Wave for Projects & Services:
  • You can now add text expansions to project planning lines, such as special conditions or prices for projects with customers and suppliers.
  • With the new automatic archiving feature, Business Central creates archived versions of various service documents, which is a useful addition for audits and version control.
  • Business Central also helps you easily replenish items for projects. On the project card page, you can create purchase orders for the items and view and edit orders before sending them to suppliers.
  • Finally, usability for service and projects has been improved, with fields and actions added on various pages to provide quicker access to information.
