Bieze Food Group: from OCR to Agentic AI

A project for our customer Bieze Food Group shows how transformative this shift can be.

Phase 1: OCR automation 
OCR extracted label text and pushed it through workflows, but accuracy plateaued at 85–90%. Every layout change required retraining. It was fast, but brittle, and dependent on perfect templates. 

Phase 2: Agentic AI 
A single reasoning agent replaced the entire OCR training pipeline. It understood label structure, interpreted icons, calculated per‑portion values, produced structured outputs, processed both text and images, and improved instantly through prompt refinement. 

As one colleague put it: “We didn’t need to retrain anything. The agent learned on the fly.” This isn’t just automation, it is intelligence.

The rise of agents: new possibilities across the food chain 

The next frontier for your company? That could be a group of agents. Some agents already deliver meaningful change in daily operations. A clear example is the Quality Impact Recall Agent. Today, recalls still take hours to coordinate. But this Agent can take the first 10 steps before a human even logs in: 

• read supplier notices, COAs, lab reports, or regulatory alerts
• identify affected SKUs, lots, and batches
• cross‑check internal traceability data
• notify QA, operations, supply chain, and customers
• compile recall communication packets
• compare shipped vs. in‑stock quantities
• update ERP, CRM, and quality systems 

Another agentic capability is the Supplier Communications Agent. Instead of chasing certificates, specs, CO₂ data, or corrective actions, the agent reads supplier documents, detects missing or inconsistent information, requests corrections, validates updates, updates product masters, archives evidence, and escalates only when risk increases. Supplier management becomes structured, auditable, and far more reliable. 

Intelligence hidden inside your data 

Once an agent understands the data, it can extract insights nobody asked for, and that’s where the transformation becomes strategic. In the Bieze Food Group project, the agent recognized that label data carries environmental signals such as ingredient intensity and packaging types. It connected these with external sustainability databases and began estimating CO₂ footprint per SKU. This unlocked entirely new possibilities:

• scoring suppliers by emissions

• identifying high‑impact ingredients

• generating sustainability reporting

• recommending lower‑emission alternatives

This is intelligence emerging from unstructured reality. 

Where agents are showing up today 

Agentic AI is already appearing across the food value chain, often in places where automation used to struggle:

• Operations: Agents validate production exceptions, detect anomalies, analyze downtime patterns, and recommend corrective actions.

• Planning and forecasting: Agents compare field reality with forecast assumptions, surface divergence, and suggest reweighting or promotion adjustments.

• Sales and field execution: Agents prioritize outlets, rewrite day plans, detect shelf gaps from photos, and push structured insights straight into CRM.

• Supply chain: Agents evaluate supplier performance, track COA trends, identify risk signals, and ingest unstructured supplier documents.

• Sustainability and compliance: Agents assemble audit packets, validate spec data, and generate evidence trails automatically.
