Benvitec powers ahead with Dynamics 365 Business Central

Benvitec Founded in 1992 from the ashes of the Kempen coal mines, the company was taken over by the Smet family after the closure and became Belgian Environmental Technics, or Benvitec. What started with the installation of plastic liners at landfill sites to prevent soil contamination has grown into an innovative environmental company focused on technical installations with clear social and ecological added value.
Today, Benvitec is active in fire protection, plastic processing and construction, air purification, linings, and concrete protection—sectors where reliability, sustainability, and thoughtful craftsmanship make all the difference. Mining for solutions
Benvitec has around 110 employees.
"Although the sector has changed significantly over the past three decades, our driving force has remained the same: achieving real progress through technology. We do this via our four-phase approach – from analysis and advice to design, implementation, and maintenance. This way, we take responsibility for every project as one team. Our slogan is therefore not without reason: 'Mining for solutions'," says Joachim Van Baelen, Financial Manager at Benvitec.

"What we do at Benvitec is not everyday work," Joachim continues. "That’s why we invest heavily in training, so our employees can easily learn new techniques. And we’re building a culture where everyone enjoys coming to Benvitec and practices their job with passion."

Solution
To get a grip on their challenges and position themselves even more strongly towards customers, Benvitec needed a robust, centralized ERP system.
Joachim explains: “The previous ERP software had reached its limits. Updates had been ignored for years, and the outdated version was no longer supported. So there was only one option: to look for a new, future-proof ERP solution.”
Dynamics 365 Business Central
"We were already familiar with the Microsoft ecosystem, so Microsoft was the logical choice this time as well. Dynamics 365 Business Central was the best fit for our company size. What convinced us were the regular updates. This ensures we always stay up to date with the latest innovations."

Close to the Standard
The initial analysis showed that quite a bit of customization would be needed to meet all requirements. “That wasn’t an option for us. We specifically wanted to use as many standard functionalities as possible. So we went back to the drawing board. In the end, we only needed six hours of customization.” At Cegeka, they still refer to this as ‘doing a Benvitec’.
And yet, the system works perfectly. “Today, we mainly use the standard modules for finance, purchasing, sales, and warehouse,” says Anouk Reekmans, Business Controller at Benvitec. “We use the project module to track our construction sites. And a special production module has been set up for the workshop.”
Single source of truth
Thanks to Business Central, Benvitec can centralize and streamline all information from various departments and projects. “No more endlessly copying data and creating new tables,” says Joachim. “We’re measuring the same things, but now everything is much clearer in the system, and we’re confident the output is correct.”
"Business Central is a breath of fresh air to work with," adds Anouk. "All processes follow a clear flow, with accounting and reporting wrapped around it like a kind of foil. Finding data has never been easier."
Step-by-step expansion
"With Business Central, we've laid the foundation for growth," says Joachim. "Now we're going to systematically expand the system, always based on our business needs. For example, we've recently set up a time tracking system within Business Central's project environment. And thanks to the integration with Peppol, we're ready for mandatory e-invoicing starting in 2026."
Approach
Gaining buy-in at every level
The decision to go with a single ERP-systeem, came from Benvitec’s management.
"But we felt it was important to have the entire organization involved from the very beginning," Joachim explains. "For our key user group, we selected a good mix of managers and employees from various departments who work with the processes daily. Everyone was allowed to make decisions within their domain, always with the support of management."
Partnership from start to finish – and beyond
Peter Meus, Project Lead at Cegeka, reflects on an intense collaboration:
"The implementation at Benvitec was a broad project involving many different profiles. To keep everything on track, we met weekly. These meetings were the ideal moment to discuss progress and bring technical issues to the table. There was also room for practical questions, such as additional training or support."
After the go-live, Cegeka's Managed Services-team came into focus. Lieven Tuytschaever, Account and Service Executive, explains:
"We collaborate with the team at Benvitec to explore potential optimizations. This ranges from integrating the time tracking system to shaping the Peppol environment. We also handle Microsoft’s mandatory biannual updates, including testing and follow-up."
