AI-Augmented Functional Analyst

Flexible, Hasselt
Functional & Business Analysis, Data & AI, Software Development
Professional, Freelancer

Are you a functional analyst who thinks in user stories and in AI capabilities? Can you bridge the gap between stakeholders, developers and the rapidly evolving world of AI-assisted software development? Our Digital & Information Office (DIO) is the strategic IT backbone of the Cegeka organisation. We build and operate complex internal platforms — including our React/Python-based Horizon portal — and we are now accelerating how we integrate AI into both our products and our engineering workflow. We are looking for a sharp, technically minded Functional Analyst who can drive this shift. You operate at the intersection of business analysis, AI implementation and modern software delivery. You are both a translator — turning business needs into functional specs — and an active participant in how AI reshapes our development practices.

  • You analyze business needs and translate them into clear, testable functional requirements
  • You write and refine user stories, acceptance criteria and functional specifications
  • You manage and maintain the product backlog together with product owners and team leads
  • You facilitate demos, reviews and validation sessions with internal stakeholders
  • You act as the main point of contact between business, development, and architecture teams
  • You collaborate with distributed development teams across Belgium, Romania, and Moldova
  • You monitor project scope and ensure continuous alignment with business objectives
  • You identify and evaluate opportunities to embed AI features into our internal platforms (e.g. intelligent search, automated workflows, AI-assisted reporting)
  • You translate AI capabilities into concrete user stories and functional specs that development teams can act on
  • You collaborate with architects and developers to assess feasibility, data requirements and model integration patterns
  • You define acceptance criteria and testing scenarios specific to AI-driven features (output quality, edge cases, fallback behaviour)
  • You stay current on AI tooling, LLM capabilities, and platform integrations relevant to our product landscape
  • You champion and roll out AI-assisted tools within the team (e.g. GitHub Copilot, AI-based test generation, automated documentation)
  • You identify bottlenecks in our SDLC where AI tooling can reduce lead time or improve quality
  • You work with team leads to measure the impact of AI adoption on delivery metrics and team productivity
  • You help define standards and guidelines for responsible AI use in our development workflow
  • You participate in release planning and understand release management concepts (branching strategies, version control, environment management)
  • You engage meaningfully in CI/CD pipeline discussions — understand build, test and deployment stages well enough to spot scope and quality risks
  • You participate in or facilitate code review processes from a functional correctness and requirement-alignment perspective
  • You understand API design, data flows and system integration patterns at a conceptual level
  • You contribute to quality gates and definition-of-done criteria that reflect both functional and technical standards.

What you need to succeed:

  • You have minimum 3-5 years as a functional analyst in custom software development projects
  • You have strong hands-on knowledge of Scrum: user story writing, backlog refinement, sprint ceremonies and stakeholder demos
  • You have demonstrable experience working with or implementing AI features in software products — LLMs, AI APIs, or AI-assisted tooling
  • You have used AI productivity tools in a professional context (e.g. Copilot, ChatGPT, automated testing, AI documentation)
  • You have a solid conceptual understanding of release management, CI/CD pipelines, code review practices and SDLC stages
  • You have experience with functional testing, UAT and writing acceptance criteria — including for non-deterministic AI features
  • You have strong communication and facilitation skills; you are able to align business, technical and AI-strategy stakeholders
  • You are fluent in English. Knowledge of Dutch is a strong plus given our Belgian context
  • Experience with IT service management processes and frameworks and exposure to cloud platforms (Azure), microservices or event-driven architectures are a plus
  • You preferably work two days per week from our office in Hasselt (Corda), combined with working from home.

What are we offering:

  • Collaboration with international teams across Belgium, Romania and Moldova on high-impact platforms
