Tech & Platform Build Lead

As Tech & Platform Build Lead Cloud, you will shape the technology direction and lead the development of a secure, resilient cloud platform. You will translate business and product needs into practical technology choices, bring together engineering teams and partners, and guide delivery from initial architecture to a platform ready for customers and day-to-day operations. This role combines strategic architecture leadership with hands-on delivery accountability. It suits an experienced technology leader who has built or significantly modernised cloud platforms and can balance technical quality, commercial priorities and the realities of execution.

• You set the technology direction and architecture, aligning platform capabilities with business priorities and customer needs.
• You lead multidisciplinary engineering teams and technology partners to deliver a reliable, production-ready platform.
• You evaluate technology options and make informed build, buy and partner recommendations, considering cost, risk and long-term flexibility.
• You embed security, resilience and sovereignty requirements into architecture and delivery, working closely with security and assurance specialists.
• You establish sound engineering practices and manage technical quality, dependencies, delivery risks and platform costs.
• You work with product and operations colleagues to prioritise development and ensure an effective transition into ongoing service delivery.
• You develop the engineering capability, team structure and knowledge needed to sustain and evolve the platform.
• You work closely with the Programme Director and colleagues across product, operations, security, commercial and corporate functions.
• You act as the technical link between internal engineering teams, shareholder organisations and external technology partners.
• You engage with customers and assurance specialists to ensure the platform meets practical service and assurance needs.

• You have a relevant degree in computer science, engineering or a related field, or equivalent professional experience.
• Extensive experience in cloud architecture, platform engineering or infrastructure development, with substantial responsibility for technology leadership and delivery.
• A proven track record of building or significantly modernising production-grade cloud platforms, taking them from architecture through implementation and operational handover.
• Experience leading multidisciplinary teams and coordinating delivery across organisational boundaries, suppliers and technology partners.
• Strong experience assessing and integrating commercial and open-source technologies, with a good understanding of the trade-offs between building internally and sourcing externally.
• Experience working in regulated or business-critical environments, where security, resilience and operational reliability are central to technology decisions.
• Commercial awareness of platform costs, licensing, capacity planning and supplier relationships.
• A strong foundation in cloud infrastructure and cloud-native platforms, including compute, storage, networking and container technologies such as Kubernetes.
• Practical knowledge of automation, infrastructure as code, platform integration and engineering practices that support repeatable, scalable delivery.Sound knowledge of identity and access management, data protection, observability, availability and disaster recovery.
• A solid understanding of platform operations and the architectural choices needed to support secure, reliable services for multiple customers.
• Familiarity with digital sovereignty, cloud assurance and relevant regulatory requirements is considered an advantage.
• You connect strategic thinking with practical execution and take ownership of delivery outcomes.
