Cegeka continues to grow! Within our Applications software department, we have set up a new division for an exciting long-term project with the Flemish Government. Cegeka's Flanders Digital wants to ensure, in partnership with the Flemish Government, that Flanders grows into the European top 5 most digitised regions. Cegeka is the Flemish Government's strategic IT partner in this matter.  In this way, we are putting our shoulders to the further digitalisation of Flanders in terms of digital workplaces and building applications that have an impact on 6.6 million Flemish people, like you and me. Think, for example, of  ‘het Groeipakket’, through which 960,000 Flemish families automatically receive the correct allowances and benefits. Or ‘het Vlaams Handhavingsplatform’ for the ‘Agentschap Justitie en Handhaving’, centralising all information on administrative enforcement from the various inspection services in Flanders. With Persona, ‘Agentschap voor Onderwijs’ is taking a new application into use to manage personnel data.  In addition, we have numerous other projects. For these projects, we are always looking for people with, to put it in Flemish, ‘goesting’!  Do you want to help build a digital Flanders? Then you might be our new Data Engineer. Here is what the job contains:

  • In your role as Senior Data Engineer, you function as a knowledge beacon within the team and you take other team members in tow. 
  • You work on Business Intelligence, Big Data and AI projects. These projects may or may not be implemented in the Microsoft Azure Cloud. 
  • You help our customers build scalable data platforms and work on projects with their own challenges. 
  • Together with the team you develop the ETL flows needed to retrieve the data from the source systems, transform them according to the predefined business logic, and integrate them in the central data warehouse or offer them on the central data platform. 
  • If necessary, you will be responsible for setting up and configuring a DevOps environment. 
  • You also develop an API that unlocks an AI model and the front-end for the AI application. 
  • You deliver testable code, perform unit tests and provide support for performance and system tests. 
  • You document your work and provide sufficient functional and technical metadata. 

What you need to succeed:

  • You have proven experience as a data engineer in the design and/or development of ETL data flows and/or data pipelines. 
  • You have experience in defining and creating dashboards/reports/visualisation possibilities and you have insight into the possibilities in terms of reporting via Microstrategy. 
  • You have experience with ODI/Oracle BI, SAS, Apache NiFi, Python, Kafka, Apache spark and/or other tools. 
  • Knowledge of CDP (Cloudera data platform) in a data & analytics context is an asset. 
  • You are familiar with the Agile/Scrum methodology and can apply it. 
  • You bring with you a thorough knowledge of database programming languages such as PL-SQL, as well as knowledge of other databases and you are able to deal with unstructured data and large data volumes. 
  • You have knowledge of DWH and data modelling as well as experience in tuning large data warehouses. 
  • You are familiar with the concept of event-driven architecture and know better than anyone what this means in terms of data. 
  • You have good communication skills, customer focus and accuracy are also a must. 
  • In addition, you work independently, in a structured way, take ownership and are result-driven. 
  • You have a good command of the Dutch and English languages. 
  • And you have a master's degree (computer science, economics, business engineering, policy informatics, mathematics, physics, engineering, etc.) or bachelor's degree in computer science or equivalent through experience.
