INTERNSHIP - FortiGate Monitoring (academic year 2025-2026)

Do you already have a basic understanding of networking and security? Are you looking for an internship for the 2025–2026 academic year? Then we have the perfect challenge for you!  In modern IT infrastructures, firewalls play a crucial role in securing networks and ensuring service availability. Fortinet FortiGate is one of the leading solutions in network security and is widely used as a primary firewall solution. To ensure proper functionality, stability, and security, proactive monitoring of FortiGates is essential. Although Fortinet offers various built-in monitoring options (such as SNMP, Syslog, FortiAnalyzer, etc.), it is important that these integrate well with the organization’s existing monitoring standards and tools. This internship project focuses on researching, designing, and potentially developing an effective monitoring solution for FortiGates, tailored to our existing monitoring templates and operational processes.

• You will start by analyzing the current monitoring template and identifying areas for improvement.
• Next, you’ll dive into different monitoring methods such as SNMP, APIs, and FortiAnalyzer.
• You’ll compare popular tools like Nagios, Zabbix, and Grafana based on their integration capabilities with FortiGate.
• You’ll also explore whether building a custom monitoring tool would be a smart choice.
• Alerts must be delivered effectively — you’ll investigate how they can be linked to systems like email, Teams, or ticketing platforms.
• Finally, you’ll develop a Proof of Concept: set up a test environment, evaluate the chosen solution, and present your findings through dashboards and reports.
